As a celebrant, one of the most common questions I get from couples is, "Do we need to do a rehearsal?" The short answer? Not necessarily. The longer answer? It depends on your day, your vibe, and what makes you feel comfortable. Let’s break it down.
When You Don’t Need a Rehearsal
If you’re planning a relaxed, simple ceremony with a small group, there’s a good chance a rehearsal isn’t essential. Most of the time, a quick chat or walk-through on the day (with me guiding everyone) is more than enough trust me, I have done this a few times!
When a Rehearsal Might Be a Good Idea
If you’re planning a more formal celebration — or if the idea of “winging it” makes you nervous — a rehearsal can help settle those jitters and make sure everyone knows what they’re doing. Particularly a good idea if you have a big bridal party or complex entrance (multiple aisles, stairs, music cues) or you’re incorporating special elements like a cultural ritual, readings, or children in the ceremony.
My Little Secret…
Even without a formal rehearsal, I always chat to you beforehand about what to expect and I always arrive early on the wedding day to walk everyone through the key moments, answer questions, and make sure everyone feels confident. So no, you’re not going in blind!
